February 1: SABR Day, 12-4 PM, at the Detroit Public Library, 5201 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, Michigan 48202, in the Music Room on the 3rd floor of the Woodward side of the Library.
Our event begins at 12:00 PM with opening greetings and a chance to get settled.  The Presentations will begin at 12:30 PM.  Gary Gillette will give a presentation about Baseball’s cheating scandal.  Jerry Amernic, novelist and Babe Ruth historian, is our primary speaker.   Jerry is a SABR member from Toronto who will speak about his new book, Babe Ruth: A Superstar’s Legacy.  Copies of his book will be available for sale and signing.  See  https://baberuthlegacy.com.

Note that former MLB outfielder Jim Gosger is unable to appear due to illness.  Detroit SABR President Peter Hoyos will lead a discussion about Gosger’s baseball career.  Finally, we will discuss future activities, including the new SABR Detroit Book Club, activities with other chapters, and the chapter business.  If you are interested in joining our chapter leadership committee, this is an excellent time share your opinions and socialize with the group.

On the weekend there is free parking in the employee lot on the south side of the library on Putnam Street.  If the south lot is full or closed, there is a parking garage (Wayne State University lot #6) at 61 Putnam Street on the opposite side of the street.

In the evening after our SABR Day event, we encourage everyone to stop at Nemo’s (1384 Michigan Avenue) at 7:00 PM to celebrate Babe Ruth’s Birthday Party.  See https://www.facebook.com/baberuthbirthdayparty.
