Hello all, just a reminder that the SABR Detroit Chapter will hold its Fall Meeting on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 11, noon to 430 PM in the William R. Gilstorf Room at the St. Clair Shores Public Library at 22500 Eleven Mile Road.

Instead of meeting before hand for lunch there will be an informal dinner at the Cadieux Cafe at 4300 Cadieux Road on the East Side of Detroit.

Please note, food is not permitted in the meeting room, so please plan accordingly.

RSVP’s to GGillette(at)HiddenGameSports.com appreciated but not required.

Featured speakers include:
  • Steve Weingarden of Toledo, SABR Business of Baseball co-chair, who will talk about the history of baseballs Winter Meetings, including the massive effort he supervised to produce the definitive three-volume set of SABR books on the subject.
  • Chip Martin of London, Ontario, who will talk about the many fascinating connections between our own 1880s National League Detroit Wolverines and the American Association Pittsburgh Alleghenys, who would jump leagues and later become the NL Pirates club that survives to the present. Chip will also talk about his upcoming book on the 1880s Wolverines.
  • Mitch Lutzke of Williamston, MI, who will talk about his extensive research into the history of the? Page Fence Giants of Adrian, as well as about his forthcoming book on that fabled team, which should be published in early 2018.
  • Gary Gillette (Detroit) and Dan DAddona (Holland, MI), who will discuss Lou Whitaker case for the Hall of Fame.

Stay tuned for more details!
