The SABR Detroit Chapter will hold a special midsummer meeting from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, July 12, in the Ernie Harwell Room of the Detroit Public Library.

The featured speaker at the meeting will be SABR member John Rosengren, author of a much-needed new biography of Tigers Hall of Famer Hank Greenberg.

The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. with a quick quiz about the recent movie “42”, followed by a discussion of its depiction of historical events. At 4 p.m., local SABR stalwart Rick Meister will speak briefly about the 2014 Jerry Malloy Negro League conference, which will be hosted in Detroit.

Rosengren’s feature presentation on “Hank Greenberg: The Hero of Heroes” will begin at 4:15, followed by a Q&A session and book signing. People can bring previously purchased copies of the book to be signed, or they can purchase a copy at the meeting directly from the author.

As always, non-members are welcome to attend and to participate. Hope to see you there!
