The Detroit Chapter will hold its annual SABR Day meeting on Saturday, January 30, from 1:00 till 5:30 p.m. in the Explorers Room of the Detroit Public Library, 5201 Woodward Avenue in Midtown Detroit (http://www.detroitpubliclibrary.org/branch/main).

The meeting will be preceded by an optional lunch at 11:30 at Maccabees at Midtown bistro, 5057 Woodward, across the street from the DPL (http://www.maccabeesatmidtown.com/).

Our SABR Day 2016 agenda (Detroit SABR Day 2016 meeting agenda) includes featured speakers Jason Beck and Dan D’Addona as well as a panel discussion on the “Dombrowski Era in Detroit.” The panel will be moderated by Jeff Wattrick and will feature panelists Dan D’Addona, Jason Beck, Gary Gillette, and Steve Weingarden.

Bruce MacLeod will speak about his new book project on the 1880s NL Detroit Wolverines.

Beck has covered the Tigers for MLB.com for the past 14 years, making him the only beat writer to chronicle the entirety of the “Dombrowski Era.” Beck will share his observations on the players, teams, and major events in Tigertown since Dave Dombrowski was hired as Detroit president and CEO in 2001.

D’Addona, sports editor for the Holland Sentinel newspaper, will read from his recent book “In Cobb’s Shadow: The Hall of Fame Careers of Sam Crawford, Harry Heilmann and Heinie Manush” and talk about the careers of those Tigers legends.

Wattrick is managing editor for WDIV-TV’s highly rated Web site, ClickonDetroit.com. Previously, he was a well-known reporter and blogger for Deadline Detroit and for MLive.com.

Weingarden is an expert in corporate leadership. He received his Ph.D. in organizational psychology from Wayne State and is co-chair of SABR’s Business of Baseball Committee.

MacLeod covered Detroit sports for two decades at the Macomb Daily before becoming that newspaper’s first online editor. He is currently a social media consultant and freelance writer.

As always, non-members and friends are welcome to attend. Hope to see y’all on the 30th!
